The Dirt on Valentine’s Day: 7 Local Santa Monica Sweet Spots for your Sweetheart

The Dirt on Valentine’s Day: 7 Local Santa Monica Sweet Spots for your Sweetheart

This year’s Super Bowl is on the eve of Valentine’s Day and I have no doubt this is a prime set-up for disappointment in households everywhere. You can solve that problem right now. It is time to make a dinner reservation and I have a few suggestions just for you, my loyal Dirt reader.

Fia Steak

Did you know that there is more going on at Fia than that killer patio? Inside is a seriously elevated steak house concept. Champagne and caviar pairings and tableside salad and tartare preparations make this an impressive date spot. Valentines 6-course prix-fixe for $250/pp.

Mastro’s Ocean Club

Pretty straightforward, valentine-approved, dinner with a view. Always a winner for me.

Cobi’s

This Asian fusion spot took over the pink building that used to be home to Dhaba. A really romantic vibe with fresh flowers hanging from the ceiling and a nice, heated patio. They have a $90/pp 5-course menu being offered.

Vito

Blast from the past? Classic old-school Italian is always a good call for a romantic evening. Vito’s has a philosophy that Valentine’s Day shouldn’t require increased prices and set menus.

The Lobster

Don’t sleep on the Lobster! If you can’t make a sunset hour reservation, you can still impress with a view of the Ferris Wheel light show.

McCall’s

New to Montana Avenue and I expect it will soon to be a favorite staple! Fantastic butcher with super high-quality meats, seafood and a small selection of local produce and pantry items. A quick stop here and you are ready to whip up something impressive from your own beautiful (and dare I say, under-utilized) kitchen.

John Kelly

Can’t go wrong with a box of chocolates (unless those new years resolutions are still going strong). Pop into the shop at 11th and Montana, have a sample or two, and build a custom box for your beloved. Grab a bottle of bubbly at Fireside Cellars and you should be good to go.

And if you are the “kill-two-birds” type, how about a couple dozen blue and yellow roses? Go Rams! There, that was easy. You can thank me later.
